Lynette's Honeymoon StoryNotes from a reader
"In May 2002 my husband and I honeymooned on Maui. We rented a Jeep (because we've always wanted one!) and drove out past Lahaina to our hotel. We spent eight days on the island, with wonderful weather the whole week. We snorkeled several days, and the great part about Maui is you can pull off just about any road and set up beach camp for the day. Several times, no one else was around the whole day...it felt like we were on a deserted tropical island.
"Every night we went to a different restaurant. One of our favorites is The Aloha Plate, near the ocean. It's so down to earth and casual, and we got there just as the sun was setting. We loved the simple food and design of the restaurant, and the cool thing was, as the sun went down, the luau next door started up so we could hear all of the music and entertainment, which created a magical atmosphere while we dined (yet we didn't have to pay a penny more for it!). It was truly an awesome night. We loved traveling all week in our Jeep and trying new food places, like Maui Tacos.
"We finished off our Maui honeymoon with a day touring the "Heavenly Road to Hana," which was lots of fun because our tour guide stopped at neat locations and he knew so much about the Islands. It was a great way to spend the day.
"The only thing I would have changed on the Hana tour: I would have paid a little more for the helicopter ride back to the other side of the island. At the end of the day, the return drive can be tedious and is not as scenic as the first half of the trip. I'd take the helicopter and bring a few more snacks and extra towels for swimming in the "sacred" pools.
"The tropical plantation was also fun to visit. I recommend going when you have a lot of time because there is a train ride you can take, but we didn't have the time.
"SURPRISE: I found out we were going to have our first child "because" of this trip! It was an awesome experience and we are getting ready to return within the next three months. See you soon!"
