KOI take center stage at Waikoloa Beach Resort’s first annual “Waikoloa Koi Day” event. The majestic fish – well-known for their bright colors and patterns — will be on display at The Studio at Queens’ MarketPlace from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 23. Visitors and guests are invited to visit Hawai‘i Koi Farm owner, Gary DeCoito’s award-winning koi collection, and also learn about the care and history behind the beautiful fish.
This exciting two-day event is held annually at the Parker Ranch Rodeo Arena in Waimea as a fundraiser to provide scholarships for school-age children of Parker Ranch employees. As the event celebrates its 34th year and all of Hawaii celebrates "The Year of the Paniolo," the rodeo is highly anticipated with loads of family-style fun.
Saturday’s fun kicks off at 12 noon with a round up of rodeo activities, which may include everything from dally team roping, double mugging, po’o wai u, to bull riding, junior bull riding, bronc riding, barrel racing, steer un-decorating and wild cow races.
Sunday’s celebration begins at 11 a.m. with more rodeo action. Ono (delicious) food and refreshments are available.
Tickets are available in advance at the Parker Ranch Store and at the gate on rodeo days. Children 10 and under are free.

The town of Honoka'a on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island joins the world in observing the United Nations' International Peace Day.
The 2nd annual Parade and Festival for the United Nations' International Day of Peace begins at noon with a parade featuring bands, floats, clubs, school groups, performance artists and dancers winding down Mamanae Street.
Following the parade, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., is a festival celebrating Peace Day in the County Sports Complex with food vendors, information booths, entertainment and more. The purpose of the event is promote peace, compassion and awareness of interdependence.
